My husband and I moved to Midland in the Spring of 2014 when I was six weeks pregnant with our first child.  We had no support system, family or friends in Midland.  It was a very tough transition during a vulnerable but exciting time in my life.  This town defined lonely for me!  I was no stranger to the weight room, and had been lifting and doing the minimal amount of cardio necessary for a decade, which kept me in pretty good shape.   I continued working out throughout my pregnancy, but none the less, gained 50 lbs.
Fast forward to when I found Basin.  I had Luke 16 months before, and was a busy, working-mom in a stressful job still carrying about 20 lbs more than my pre-pregnancy weight.  I was looking for a change in my fitness level and my old lifting ways were just not working anymore, plus I was growing super bored with the weight room.  I noticed Basin CrossFit on my daily drive to the YMCA and just decided to stop in one day.  I started my elements classes with  Jarret the next week and have been a member since May 2016.  In October,  I participated in my first individual competition.  I was so nervous, but we prepared hard.  I placed 17th out of 24 athletes,  and I am very proud of that.

The exciting changes I’ve seen since joining Basin CrossFit are:
– losing 19 lbs total, 8 of which were lost in the last 2 months when all the chicks in the noon class started following the Zone diet together.
– losing fat and seeing tons of beautiful, curvy muscle develop.  I finally feel strong and confident again!!
– wearing all my pre-pregnancy clothes again
– my mental clarity and focus at work has improved 100%
But the biggest change of all is that I have found a family here and this town does not define lonely for me any longer!  The noon class is my refuge, my therapy and my calm place.  The people who make up that class are my close friends and make life so much sweeter!  Beyond the noon class, everyone at Basin has made me feel like I belong.  When you look around the box, you see a typical Crossfit setting but that place is so much more than it appears.  I appreciate Basin CrossFit and it’s people more than I could ever express.
